As soon as he arrived, he found little girls doing the "Thiruvathirakali", a folk dance of Kerala in which the dancers form a circle and sing rhythmically at the clapping of the audience's hands and their hands. When the dance ended Gurudeva called the landlady and composed the "JNANAKUMMI", in Malyalam. This text became very popular in Kerala and is sung whenever there is a bhajan-kirtan.

Gurudev also composed some poems in English.

There are also countless cases of people who received his blessing by saving themselves from various calamities.

A very old disciple of about 90 years, said she was saved from certain death in 1954 during the kumbha mela in Prayag (Allahahbad).

This lady was known in Vashishta Guha by the name of Barabanki Maa (Shanti Mehrotra). One day while she went to the ceremonial bath in the Ganges with her mother-in-law, her uncle, aunt and her little daughter, an accident followed, and the immense crowd seemed to have gone mad, there was a precipitous escape, the woman fell to the ground holding on and dragging the girl with him, all his relatives fell on her. There seemed to be no more hope of escaping an impending death. Shanti Mehrotra called Guruudev. Suddenly, out of nowhere two mounted police officers arrived on the scene. They immediately vanished the crowd, gathered the fallen lady and all the members of her family and took them away to safety.

As soon as Shanti Mehrotra arrived at home, she immediately reported this terrible incident to her husband, who ran to thank the district magistrate for the timely rescue. Imagine the surprise when he learned that the administration had made no deal for the mounted police!

Later, when she met Gurudeva, the Master with her captivating laughter said to her, "You have been saved!"

Even after bodily death, Swami Purushottamananda has always kept an eye on his devotees.

He himself said that after his departure he would always give unlimited help to his disciples.

Once the wife of a devotee who was in a place far from home, all alone and without means of communication, had serious problems with her sick son,

Suddenly Gurudeva appeared before her and gave her some sacred ash (Vibuthi) and some instructions. Needless to say, the boy recovered.

Another devoted woman, who went to Guha from the early days of Gurudeva's stabilization, craved the diksha mantra. Swamiji however refused to give her the precious mantra. Swami Shantanandaji Puri who was then a householder, comforted the woman, saying "If your desire is so intense you will get it from Gurudeva himself". When they met some time later she informed him overjoyed that Gurudeva had appeared to her in a dream and given her his diksha.

Shri RC Mishra, who recently retired as a lecturer at the inter-college government in Uttarkhand went to Guha after the Samadhi of the Guru.

One day he was sent to Goolar, to the neighboring village. He and his family were ardent devotees who rendered a lot of service to the ashram.

When his eldest daughter Sunita was to take school exams, they were informed that the practical exam would be held in Narendranagar about 50 km from Goolar. Mishraji's wife Krishna became very worried. he had four children including an infant son and therefore he could not leave his home and Mishraji also had his university jobs to do.

One very early morning, the woman was sitting in a state of light sleepiness. He saw an old man with only a white cloth around his waist, knocking on his door with a stick. The Elder said to her, "Why are you worried about your daughter's practices? I'll do them myself. Just give me something to eat." The woman immediately called her daughter, who as soon as she arrived saw no one.

On the same day, Mishraji received a call from the examiner who was to conduct the exam, saying that he could not come to Narendranagar, and that Mishraji himself was to direct the exam directly to Goolar.

The years of penance that Purushottamananda had performed in Vashishta Guha further sanctified the sacred environment around it.

Many are the visitors of Guha, many of them foreigners, who are overwhelmed by the vibrations that reverberate inside the cave.

Shri ML Kohli, an ardent Guha devotee, was a witness of some unusual events that occurred recently.

An Indian-born lady and an Australian citizen entered the cave and stayed there for some time. When she went out, she cried in an uncontrollable way. He took away all the gold, the ornaments he wore in abundance and gave them to a girl who was in the immediate vicinity. He went away saying that the purpose of his birth had been fulfilled. Nobody saw her again.

A family of four, however, entered Guha and as soon as they left they said that the old monk with a white beard was sitting in the center

of the cave. Obviously when people rushed to check, they didn't find anyone inside.

A similar experience was also told by a foreigner while climbing over the valley after his visit to the Guha.

Both young and old have had visions of Gurudeva even though they have never met him.

All of these extraordinary events were told only to offer them to the reader, to point out that even when Swami was immersed in the austere spiritual path, he understood the problems of people captured by worldly affairs and most of the time his help arrived.

In July 1957 the avatar Sathya Sai Baba also visited him. We report this episode from the biography (The life of Sai Baba).

“On the way back, Sathya Sai Baba stopped the bus in a place, where a thin wire carried a barely recognizable plate," Vasishta Guha "and began to descend the steep enough slope to the river bank, as if there had already been often and as if he had remembered an appointment with the inhabitant of the cave. The Ganges describes a wide curve near the cave; not far away a small stream pours its offerings to the Ganges, and therefore the landscape is doubly attractive. Vasishta Guha carries a sacred name; it was sanctified by the austerities performed there by many great cloisters and monks of the past.

Swami Purushottamananda, a disciple of Swami Brahmananda of the Ramakrishna order, initiated into the monastic life by Mahapurushji, another direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, had lived in the cave for 30 years and welcomed Baba as if he was waiting for him too! He was over seventy years old, had spent most of his life in the most rigorous asceticism and scripture study. His face had the authentic brightness of spiritual joy and the slightest hint of the glory of God made him go into ecstasy.

When he was still a twenty-seven year old, Swami Brahmananda had read his palm in Kanyakumari, and predicted that he would enter a cave and continue to meditate and meditate!

Baba reminded him of the travails he had endured when he first entered the cave: leopards and cobras and three days of walking to Rishikesh, the desperate struggle for salt and matchboxes!

He said of the help that had come to him through pure Divine intervention!

Baba repeated the visit the following evening, despite a rumbling sky and the rumbling of some people who accompanied him.

But the roar stopped and the grumblers were humiliated; by Baba's grace, the sky became clear and the rain receded.

Baba himself sang a number of songs that day in Vasishta Guha and when one of the Swamis attending Swami Purushottamananda asked him to sing a song by Thyagaraja, He asked very kindly which of Thyagaraja's Krithis (compositions) he liked best. Swami Kalikananda said that he wished to hear "Sri Raghuvara Sugunalaya"! Baba sang it, just to make him happy. Nobody had ever heard him sing that song and so it was an unexpected stroke of luck for which we have to thank Swami Kalikananda. In learning that swami had been suffering from a chronic stomach ache for many years, he took some candy out of nowhere and gave it to him, with instructions on the diet, etc. He gave Purushottamananda, a Japamala of bright Spato beads, which "appeared" from his hand.

But still more mysterious and meaningful was the vision he granted Swami Purushottamananda that evening. After sending everyone out of the cave, Baba and the Wise went to the innermost room.

Sri Subbaramiah, president of the Divine Life Society of Venkatagiri, describes what he was able to see from outside the cave: "Even today that image is etched in my memory. I was standing near the entrance to the cave. I could see What was going on. Baba put his head on Swami Purushottamananda's lap and reclined! Suddenly, his whole body was immersed in divine splendor. His head and face seemed to grow in size.

Rays of splendor emanated from His face. I was overwhelmed with a strange inexplicable joy. It was about 10 in the evening.

Later urged to reveal the vision, Baba informed us that it was a vision of Jyothir-Padmanabha! (Lord Vishnu as Flame of Love-Wisdom)

What supreme Karuna! (compassion) What an immeasurable good luck!

Swami Dayananda Saraswathi of Rishikesh, was an internationally renowned sannyasi, He took a photograph inside the cave, obviously there is no electrical system inside only an oil lamp burns near the siva lingam,

but when the photograph was developed two parallel rays of light were seen emerging from the Siva lingam. These flashes made circles across the mountain and disappeared at the base. This experience together with photography was published in the magazine 'Fiori profumati'. Swami Shantanandaji Puri explained this supernatural phenomenon. According to the essay, the photo and the two rays of light probably represent two siddhas who did penances inside the cave and merged with the absolute.

Gurudeva claimed that there are numerous siddhas purushas who practice austerity within the cave for the well-being of humanity. La Guha had a very deep tunnel which was partially closed at the behest of Gurudeva himself, so that he could meditate in peace in an undisturbed way.
